Takeaways from Squarespace Circle Day 2022

Squarespace Circle Day just wrapped and I left with SO MUCH valuable information. I’m a better designer, creative, business owner, and community member because of it. Here’s some info on the day and a glimpse into what I learned.

What is Squarespace Circle?

Squarespace Circle is a great community of designers from around the world. Squarespace Circle offers growth resources, a great community, and perks! My favorite perk is 20% off new annual websites, email campaigns, and member areas. And the beauty is, I can extend this offer to you. When you’re ready for a new site, book with Sow Good Creative and we will make sure you receive the discount.

Circle Day

The day started with a keynote from Paul Gubbay, Squarespace’s Chief Product Officer. Then we were updated with what’s coming down the pipeline for Squarespace. I can’t speak publicly (yet!) but I’m excited for what’s coming for Squarespace. I’m learning to see this more than just a website builder. There’s much I can offer our clients moving forward.

I attended the conference online, and the experience was pleasurable. We utilized Discord to meet other designers prior to the start of the event and to communicate throughout. Each session was held via Zoom, and the Circle team did a good job at making sure links were updated and shown at the correct time. It’d be ideal if all of it was handled within Squarespace, but with this being the first year, things flowed very well.

What I Learned

I attended 8 sessions during the day. Each were packed with valuable information. Mind you, this conference was free. But with the value I received… I DEFINITELY would’ve paid for it. Here’s a few takeaways that I’ll be adding to my business:

Product Map as a Page

Every time I work with a client, there’s a process. And as I work with more clients like yourself, I want to make sure that process is effortless and enjoyable. One way to do that, shared by Benjamin Manley of Knapsack Creative, is to create a product map page. This will be a page on the backend of my site that I share with you as we’re working through your website build. This will include a link to the site we’re building, links to folders, a guide to see where we are in the process, and any other pertinent information needed for the build. I love transparency and communication. This is an area we can improve in, and with the addition of the product map, we will get better.

Solve Business Problems, Not Technical Problems

The overall goal of a website is to bring business to you. I want Sow Good Creative to be great at that. David Iskander from Launch Happy stated, “I solve business problems. I just happen to build websites.” I’m going to adjust our follow up process to make sure our website builds are bringing value to you. A beautiful website is nice. A beautiful website that converts is even better.

Creating a Site Blueprint as a Service

I’ve felt good with our process at Sow Good, but I know it can be more refined. Kathryn Joachim of Créme Brands showcased how to elevate services by refining processes, and charging for them. I want to integrate some of the tools used in their site blueprint into our own. This will enhance your experience with us.

Overall, the day was phenomenal. I gained more knowledge about Squarespace and connected with other Squarespace designers. This is truly a great community. I’m grateful to be a Circle member! Everything I learned at the conference will be valuable to our clients and to myself as a business owner. I’m ready implement changes into our process and continue to sow good and serve well.
